The Executive Secretary of State Agency Dr. Rahila Aliyu Muktar stated this during the flag-off the enrollment of 22 less-privileged pregnant women into the Scheme founded by the Ungogo Waqf Foundation in the Ungogo Local Government area.
Dr. Rahila Aliyu Muktar said this effort came at the right time which Kano state government through KSCHMA provides free healthcare delivery to women and children under five in the state.
“Waqf will purchase services from KSCHMA and also KSCHMA will purchase services at the facilities. We will send all these beneficiaries across the state and we will monitor and evaluate how these beneficiaries are being cared for,” Dr. Rahila added.
The executive secretary pointed out that the Kano State Contributory Healthcare Management Agency has introduced the Basic Health Care Provision Fund which is mainly for less privileged people and pregnant women, children under five, and people with special needs Kano state government used its counter-fund for the success of the scheme.
Speaking earlier, the chairman of Ungogo lafiya Waqf Foundation the District Head of Ungogo Local government said the foundation was launched on 26th November 2023 to provide essential healthcare services to pregnant women who may otherwise face barriers in accessing quality care as a result of economic hardship.
The district head (Magajin Malam) represented by Shehu Abdulkadir Ahmad pointed out that the Ungogo lafiya Waqf Foundation is a nongovernmental organization with all regulatory bodies in the country.
“The foundation is committed to reducing maternal and infant mortality or morbidly rates within Ungogo Local government area,” he said.
The chairman further said the beneficiaries are 22 less privileged pregnant women selected from 11 wards of the local government.
“All those beneficiaries will benefit from free antenatal care up to 12 weeks of their delivery from all healthcare facilities registered with KSCHMA across the state,” Magajin Malam said.
Waqf Rooted in Islamic teachings is a charitable endowment aimed at supporting various social and humanitarian causes.
During the event, Imam Ahmad Muhammad the Chief Imam of Kadawa Juma’at Mosque spoke at length about the significance of Waqf in Islam.
